Palma de Mallorca is the capital of the island and, at the same time, the most populated city center of the Balearic island. In the center, numerous markets take place on different days of the week. In the Plaza Olivar market fresh fish, vegetables, fruits, wine, olives and bakery products are served every day. The Gabriel Alomar i Villalonga Avenue houses a street market once a week, which offers antiques and arts, as well as colonial rarities, paintings, books and kitchen utensils.
In the Passeig de la Rambla there is a flower market every day and in the Plaça Major a crafts market is held daily between 10:00 and 14:00 during the summer months. The negotiation is expressly allowed in the weekly markets of Palma de Mallorca. No merchant expects the customer to pay the mentioned price without any type of negotiation.
Farmers markets in Mallorca
The Mallorcan farmers markets are a hidden treasure. Pickled olives, citrus fruits, peppers, avocados, aubergines and almonds are what merchants present in their stalls. In Calvia, on Mondays and in Alcúdia there is always a market day on Tuesdays.
Fresh vegetables, ham, olive oil and spices are offered in the streets of the historic center. On Wednesdays there is a market in the towns of Andratx, Selva, Colonia de Sant Jordi and Capdepera Marktag. Campos, El Arenal and Ses Salines offer fresh produce on Thursdays. On Fridays there will be a market day in the tourist centers of Llucmajor and Son Severa, while on Saturdays the market day is celebrated in the old town of Sóller, Portocolom, Cala Ratjada and Santanyi. Weekly market in Sineu: farmer’s event with 700 years of tradition With a tradition of 700 years, the farmers market in Sineu is the oldest weekly market in Mallorca.
Once a week, on Wednesday, the city awakens from lethargy and transforms into a vibrant little city. Among the stalls are mixed the aroma of exotic spices, fresh paprika, leather goods and spicy goat cheese. Here you can buy Mallorcan wine and cold-pressed olive oil or buy handicrafts and leather bags.
The city of Inca is a center for the production of leather goods in Mallorca. In the weekly market, which takes place every Thursday, you will find high quality belts, handbags, wallets and fashion accessories made of leather. Pay attention to the denomination of origin, so you do not buy cheap imitations of the Far East.
